The student musicians -- violinist Julia Sakharova, cellist Margrét Arnadóttir, and pianist Yung Wook Yoo, all from Santa Barbara's Music Academy of the West -- performed Rachmaninov's youthful trios in the studio with extraordinary sonic richness and intense passion, though sometimes with too much declamatory force in excited passages.
