These works were established here in 1802 by Boston manufacturers and at one time made a prominent industry in the little town of Chelmsford. But now, not a vestige remains of the dismal old wooden factory, black with the smoke of the big furnaces. One of the tenement houses is still standing that were built by the glass company, and it causes one to think of an unhappy ghost, doomed to haunt the scene of its former prosperity.
