This book is one of the best written books I have read in a long time. Anna Politkovskaya's writing is very gripping and you really don't want to put down the book. This book covers every aspect of Russian life under Putin and the stories Politkovskaya tells come from within the last few years. We're not talking decades ago; the corruption, violence, and sadness found within this book comes directly from present day. I think the book is even more compelling when you consider that Anna was assassinated in October of 2006; many believe it was a contract killing. Anna Politkovskaya tells the story of present day Russia in a straightforward manner and relies heavily on the stories of her people to get her point across. This book is terrific and every American should read it so they will realize the truth of life under the former KGB Putin.
