Nicola III d'este fece educare dal Guarino il figlio Lionello, il quale, allorch??? per la morte del padre, assunse la corona ducale, si circond??? degli uomini pm ragguardevoli per sapere, essendo egli stesso coltissimo poeta. Gian Francesco di Gonzaga in Mantova affidava a Vittorino da Feltre l'educazione de' suoi figli, e lo rimunerava per cio lautamente. Troppo per le lunghe si andrebbe se tutti i pontefici e i principi si volessero enu meraro, che furon larghi dei loro tesori agli uomini che nelle scienze e nelle lettere specialmente primeggiavano. Ma fra tutti costoro niuno si pu??? dire che veramente si consacrasse allo studio e al progresso della letteratura italiana per amore della patria, per farla cio??? servire all'ammaestramento del popolo, il quale ormai non capiva piu un acea della lingua latina.
