The most prominent purpose of the remainder of the volume is to reveal, through an analysis of the content of the studies themselves, their inherent and compara tive educational value, and upon the basis of the values thus established to determine the best possible com bination of the studies into the various curricula now demanded. A second purpose, of almost equal weight, is to show how, upon the basis of the proposition that education for insight must always be accompanied by training for efficiency, secondary education can most effectively perform its proper functions.
