Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany (1853-84) is considered by many to have been the most intelligent and probably the most interesting of Queen Victoria's four sons. He was the youngest and a strong-willed, attractive character, with an immense thirst for life. He was also the first royal hemophiliac and suffered continual ill health as an epileptic. In this biography, it examines the question of hemophilia and the royal family from a new angle, at the first appearance of the condition. When did the Queen and Prince Albert realize that their son was ill and how much did they understood? The book also presents a full and balanced picture of Leopold's relationship with his mother and his struggle to assert his independence. Finally, it examines Leopold's life at Oxford, the varied and interesting friendships he developed there (with, among others, Lewis Carroll, John Ruskin and Oscar Wilde), his political views and the importance of his work as unofficial secretary to the Queen.

I am a huge Charlotte Zeepvat fan, and this book did not disappoint. She has an easy writing style that makes her a joy to read. If you're interested in the story of a little-known royal, read this book. Or read any of her books for that matter!

Prince Leopold
This is an incredible book written by an incrediblewriter, Charlotte Zeepvat. Prince Leopold was the last son of Victoria and Albert, and the only one to tragically inherit the hemophilia that other cousins and nephews suffered with. He was most likely the most intelligent of the Queen's sons and would have gone far with his schooling and perhaps life if he had not lost his father at such a tender age. The Queen clung to him and tried to keep him from the world, but Leopold thirsted for life and knowledge and friends. In the end, he married a lovely princess and became the father of Princess Alice of Albany, a son, Prince Charles was born after Leopold's sudden death.
A wonderful addition to any royal library, and worth every cent!
