Prime Movie
TITLE: Prime Cut
GENRE: Criminal Drama, Organized Crime
CAST: Lee Marvin, Gene Hackman, Sissy Spacek, Janet Baldwin, Gregory Walcott and Angel Tompkins
PLOT: A mid-West rancher, entrepenuer, gangster and white slave merchant owes the Mob in Chicago half a million. Several collectors have ended up dead, so the Mob hires a special 'Enforcer' to handle matters. Matters get handled along with a lot of violence and female nudity. The Enforcer turns out to be a big softie and rescues one of the women.
RETURN ON INVESTMENtT: 8 of 10; The characters are well established and performed. The sets are the American Prairies. The story is a bit gory and not presented for the faint of stomach. Several stunts are excellently pulled off (the limousine being chewed up by a harvester is an distinctive clip which is among Hollywood's best efforts and will long be remembered, if the movie survives). This is Sissy Spacek's first leading role and she does marvelously in it. A drawback is that there are a lot of scenery shots showing the wonderful landscape and then the violence is played out in that beauty.
DVD BONUS: None.
ADDED NOTES: This film came out the same year as the Godfather did and so it had to battle in its genre against not only one of the best ever of the genre, but one of the best ever in any genre, for recognition. Had it been on its own for examination, the erxcellent portrayals by the three leads would have earned this movie more notice. Remember, there is white slave female nudity and slaughterhouse operations for the viewer to honestly put in as part of their experience in this film.
