The medicinal value of different species of Emilia has been known for a long time. There are various reports of this plant having antioxidant/anti-inflammatory and antitumor activity. No information about its antipyretic potential is been observed in the literature. In present study stem of Emilia sonchifolia was extracted with five solvents in the order of their increasing polarity using soxhlet apparatus. All extracts were tested for the phytoconstituents and for antipyretic activity the results were tested by using ANOVA followed by HOC Dunnet analysis. The results strongly favour the significant antipyretic potential of the methanolic extract of Emilia sonchifolia stem. As there was a significant anti-pyretic potential observed in the yeast induced evaluation in the body temperature in rats and its effects was comparable to the standard drug Paracetamol. It was also observed that the active extract contains alkaloids, carbohydrates, phenolic compounds and saponins. The TLC study of the active extract supports the presence of three major compounds.
