Very good. No dust jacket. Spine a little rubbed and faded, some spotting on boards. A little foxing in preliminary pages, clean in text, firm and very good throughout. 130 + 2 ads p. First American edition. 12mo. 130, [2] ads pp. Publisher brown cloth stamped in gilt and blind. James Caird (1816-92) was an agriculturalist and member of the British Parliament. This volume was the result of a tour he undertook in 1859 through Canada and the American Midwest. Much of the volume is devoted to Illinois, though Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio receive a fairly thorough treatment. The portion on Canada provoked some resentment. HOWES C19. SABIN 9854.
