The results of the facts which I had then collected, were hastily thrown together on the spur of the occasion, because if my observations were to be of any present utility, a part of their merit must consist in their' early publication. '1 thought it my duty to publish the experience which I had acquired, for the practical advantage, of th'o'se, whose opportuni ties of making extensive observations might, from accrdental circumstances, have been more con tracted than mine.
