Seller's Description:
Two very nice original souvenir programs from early productions of "Porgy and Bess". The first program is 20pgs. and is from the 1942 production that starred many of the original cast members from the 1935 production including Todd Duncan. This production had a healthy run of 286 performances at The Majestic Theatre. Illustrated throughout with many photos and bio. information + there is a terrific Hirschfeld drawing of the cast on the front cover. Covers loose, and a small scrape on the back cover which has a photo of Todd Duncan. The 2nd program is from the 1953 production which also had a good run of 305 performances. This is 30pgs. and the production starred Cab Calloway and a very young Leontyne Price at the beginning of her remarkable career. Illustrated with many photos + very nice colorful cover painting of the set by Wolfgang Roth. Also included is the large hardover souvenir program for the film version. This is a 34pg. souvernir program for Otto Preminger's version of the great Gershwin opera. The film version was not that well received in 1959, and it remains unseen on dvd. Illustrated with many photos in color. Attractive. Laid in is a postcard for a recent showing of the film which is illustrated with a photo of Sidney Poitier. Sold as a collection only.
