Me Timbers Are Shivered
TITLE: Popeye's Voyage, The Quest For Pappy
GENRE: CGI Animation
CAST: Popeye, Olive, Bluto, Swee'Pea, Whimpy, Pappy, Sea Hag, Siren and sharks, lots of sharks.
PLOT: The Sailor has a recurring dream that the father who abandoned him is in need of rescue. So, off he goes with his crew (Bluto is his 1st mate). The adventures end happily at Christmas!
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 7 of 10; All the old visualizations of Popeye are combined sucessfully into the new presentation of the childhood classic.
DVD BONUS: Interviews with Popeye and Olive (Really!); 4 of the production cartoons from 1960. Behind the scenes documentation of the making.
ADDED NOTES: The music was written by Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo) and the credits version of the theme is performed by Mutato, which I believe is Robin Williams and Tina Turner (even if it isn't you'll hear and love what it sounds like to have Tina Turner sing "Popeye The Sailor Man".) Another of the bonus shorts is a Christmas episode so this DVD would make for excellent yuletide diversions Wink Wink.
