In all respects the arrangements are admirable, and excite the interest of those who witness the operations of the institution; which is administered by a director, with a corresponding number of assistants, under the superintendence of the Minister of Finance. In connection with the Monte di Pieta, may be noticed the Cassa Di Rispaemio, Or Savings' Bank. Savings' Banks are of comparatively recent origin; the earliest--that established in Hamburg--dating no farther back than the year 1778. The first in Italy was established in Milan in 1823; but it was not until the year 1836, when the experiment had been satisfactorily tesled in: that it was attempted in Rome.
