Much more than a traditional guide book, this delightful travel novel immerses readers in Polish life. An enthralling account of Philip Ward's experiences in Poland, this book also includes amusing anecdotes as well as fascinating and lesser-known cultural and historical facts. Using this guide, readers are sure to encounter places unexplored by the average visitor. Ward advises that, when in the famed Royal Court in Warsaw, travelers spend extra time in the elaborately decorated Bellotto Room. The author also points out that while tourists generally imagine the salt mines of the small city of Wieliczka as "dank or close," they are actually known throughout Poland for their beneficial effects on chest conditions, especially asthma. This book encourages travelers to be attentive and imaginative. Whether Ward is conversing with a Polish student about the government or strolling through Cracow's beautiful Market Square, his interesting observations and careful attention to detail will strike the reader as provoking, compelling, and insightful.
