N 0 more than an advent of the kind would have handicapped the great general* who was born in the same county and state in a log cabin a few miles from the home of our author. The homestead of the family was located on Twelve Mile Creek, three miles back of New Richmond. The house was built on a high hill about half a mile from the creek. The location was an ideal one. The house was of brick which were made on the farm. A large comfortable home surrounded by a lovely lawn dotted here and there with a variety of evergreens and interspersed with flowering shrubs.
