Earning Phillips great popularity, this collection contained a new edition of 'Christ in Hades' together with Marpessa, The Woman with the Dead Soul, The Wife as well as shorter pieces such as 'To Milton-Blind'. This poetry anthology was award winning, and earned Phillips the £100 prize offered by the Academy Newspaper for the best new book of the year. With eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, and the contemporary owner's inscription of Agnes Law, a member of the Law family, to the front free endpaper, dated 1902. Charlotte Anne Law, often known as Lota Law, and Hugh Alexander Law, an Irish nationalist politician, hosted a number of important literary figures at the Law family home, Marble Hill House in Donegal, including W. B. and Jack Yeats, P.H. Pearse, William Orpen, G.K. Chesterton, George William Russell and Hilaire Belloc.
