A lovely example of this popular poetry collection from English poet and dramatist Stephen Phillips. The eleventh edition of this work, first published in 1897. Earning Phillips great popularity, this collection contained a new edition of 'Christ in Hades' together with Marpessa, The Woman with the Dead Soul, The Wife as well as shorter pieces such as 'To Milton-Blind'. This poetry anthology was award winning, and earned Phillips the £100 prize offered by the Academy Newspaper for the best new book of the year. With eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, and the contemporary owner's inscription of Agnes Law, a member of the Law family, to the front free endpaper, dated 1902. Charlotte Anne Law, often known as Lota Law, and Hugh Alexander Law, an Irish nationalist politician, hosted a number of important literary figures at the Law family home, Marble Hill House in Donegal, including W. B. and Jack Yeats, P.H. Pearse, William Orpen, G.K. Chesterton, George William Russell and Hilaire Belloc. In the publisher's original cloth binding. bumping to back strip tail, with shelf wear to back strip head. Boards exceptionally bright. Contemporary inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with a small number of light spots to first few leaves. Very Good Indeed.

Good. No Jacket. Ex-Library. 12mo-over 6¾"-7¾" tall. Green cloth binding with gilt print on the cover and spine. Gilt print on the top page edging. In addition to the normal library markings and attachments, there are a few light scattered soil spots. The front hinge is cracked. There is a crack in the binding in the middle of the book, however there are no loose or missing pages. The cover has light scuffing and light spine end wear.
