Seller's Description:
None. Near Fine in Good jacket. A limited edition copy, number 57 out of 780, of Poems by John Skelton in the original publisher's green cloth binding. A limited edition copy (number 57 out of 780) of Poems by John Skelton, with a biographical preface by Richard Hughes. John Skelton was an English poet and tutor to Henry VIII. His poems are vibrant, passionate, satiric, but also grotesque and almost obscene. This book contains 14 of Skelton's poems, including 'The Garlande of Laurell, ' in which he gives a long list of his works, as well as a lot of information about himself, without failing to offer a satirical comment by writing about the ladies of the court of the duke of Norfolk, where he resided at the time. In the original publisher's green cloth bind, with unclipped dustwrapper. In the original publisher's green cloth binding with gilded titles to front board and spine. Externally, in excellent condition with minor shelfwear only to the head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper is smart, with sunned spine and some age toning internal to wraps. There is a small puncture to the spine of the wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with some foxing to the first and last few leaves, not affecting the text. Slight offsetting the endpapers. With unclipped dustwrapper. Near Fine.
