Only way for nonacademic to access one rare poem
The bulk of the book consists of English translations only, which I am not alone in considering useless for understanding what Russian poetry sounds like. One can't even be sure the content is literal. The commentary on Klyuev's life seems to me sound and informative. I purchased the book to obtain the Russian text of "Pogorel'shchina", a poem Joseph Brodsky admired. For the reader who has access to a fine academic library it may not be necessary to go to the extreme of purchasing this volume just to see one poem and I recommend this only for the amateur. The Russian text has not been annotated with accent marks.
