This well-known and excellent 2-color textbook of German origin (now in its 4th Edition, 2010) contains more than the basics, and is reputed for its organization, clarity, and good drawings (also 2-color).
As I compared this 3rd (2005) over the 4th Ed, I found both almost identical, with only minor differences in a few subchapter-titles. Since the 4th Ed is much more expensive, purchasing this 3rd is a VERY good alternative.
