The harbor is one of the best in the Philippines. Cattle, copra, coconut oil, mats, and marble,1 are exported. The people are Visayans. Tablas and Sibuyan are poorer islands than Romblon. Here the people live mainly by fishing. Palawan is the main island of the group that forms the province Palawan. A mountain range runs through its center. Some peaks are more than two thousand meters high. The Tagbanuas and Bataks, wild people, live in the mountain forests. They carry on a trade in wax and other forest products with the Visayans of the coast. Moros live in the southern part of the island. The population of Palawan is about ten thousand. There are some plants and animals in Palawan province that are not found in other parts of the Philippines. One is a longnosed animal that eats ants. Another is the pelandoc, or little mouse deer, of the island of Balabac. This deer is less than a 1 Marble is a fine kind of building stone. Malay bear foot high. The Malay or sun bear is found on the island of Palawan. Puerto Princesa, on a fine harbor, is the capital.
