There is no more winsome animal companion that a bright fox terrier, that unsurpassed combination of intelligence, playfulness, affection and courage. Peter was a dog to win the heart of anyone; but Mr. Browning did not want him because he had no tail to wag. He finally decided to take Peter for a week, It took much less than that for Peter so to endear himself that Mr. Browning would sooner have parted with any other possession. Peter's devotion and bravery knew no limits and the story unfolds many occasions to prove them. Each experience made Peter still dearer to his master, and the reader will share his fondness for him.
