Ambitious house and client
The title of "Peter Eisenman's House VI: The Client's Response," accurately identifies the dominant person in the house design. Eisenman was given nearly free rein to create a house for his clients. The clients were, according to the book, pleased overall with the outcome despite some notorious inconveniences caused by Eisenman's design choices. Over time, the house required costly maintenance repairs and became a symbol for many of avant-garde architecture. The house features excellent views and an interesting and complex design.Though not in the book, the house was recently put on the market by the clients for a million-dollar-plus figure.
I recommend that those interested in giving their architect a free hand in building design read this book first. It is a cautionary tale despite the author's sustained enthusiasm for the outcome.
