In writing this book, I imagined being in a room with a small group of students, such as students in my own classes and those who attend my presentations at conferences. The topics that I address are derived from the many and varied questions that students and counseling professionals have been collectively raising over the almost 60 years I have been in the counseling profession. In addressing these questions, my aim is to be as concise, practical, and personal as possible. I provide you with suggestions, recommendations and, at times advice, on a wide range of subjects for you to consider. I view this book as a mentoring endeavor in that my goal is to share with you what I have learned during my career, which will hopefully engage you in an active process of self-reflection that can be of use to you both personally and professionally"--
