This is a first class series. They are best read in order, so you appreciate why DI Callanach is back with Interpol in France. When he has a case of a young man found with his organs harvested, the trail links to crimes being committed in Edinburgh and DCI Ava Turner is back working with him.
The trail switches around both countries, involving a gang abducting and using European women in the sex trade and more young people brought over to provide replacement organs for those dying. The human exploitation is graphic and harrowing, and the reader is praying at least some of those culpable will be brought to justice.
The book is pacy and fascinating, with good interaction between the characters. Even DS Lively develops more, which is good to see.
A great read.

A fantastic addition to the series
A boy trapped in a container, a woman trapped in a deadly sex ring and a body with its head and organs missing - just another day at work for DI's Ava Turner and Luc Callanach.
Helen Field's DI Callanach series is 'Perfect' for me. Having read all 5 of the previous books I was excited to read the next instalment and was certainly not disappointed! Perfect Kill (how have we not had this title yet?) has a large, arching plot with many layers which all come together for a high stakes conclusion that I couldn't put down. The subject matter is dark with human trafficking, organ harvesting, sex rings and even a deadly competitive 'race'. There are a lot of things explored here but they all linked well and the jumps between France and Scotland worked really seamlessly and never felt forced or confusing. I liked the occasional jump in perspective to Elenuta's point of view and felt her character was really well-rounded and easy to sympathise for.
Having read the other books there is also a lot of character development in these books of the well-crafted characters of Ava, Luc and Natasha which is certainly appreciated - however, I do think if it's your first read of this series you wont feel like you are missing too much as the standalone parts of the plot are so interesting. The end of the book also sets up a really interesting dynamic for future books as well that I will be on the lookout for with anticipation.
On another note I also really enjoyed the Christmas dinner analogy about how a novel is produced and everyone comes together to get it published in the author acknowledgements!
Overall I really loved Perfect Kill - a worthy addition to a fantastic series and I'm looking forward to the next one already! Thank you to NetGalley & Avon Books UK for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
