I read this aloud to my 5 and 9 year old boys although it was written for children to read themselves. Both boys enjoyed it and were sorry when it ended. Originally published in 1946, it is about two brothers, both adopted, and their adventures during a time when children actually played instead of being dependent on electricity for their fun. It gives a quaint and dated picture of life, but appeals to children's senses of adventure and humor. Thankfully, the author has produced a trove of similar books, and we'll be searching out more by this author.
