Francois Bourguignon entreprend d'interroger le bien-fonde de ce choix, d'evaluer les savoirs acquis et d'identifier la nature des contraintes politiques dans le contexte de la mondialisation. Chercheur au Centre national de la recherche scientifique et directeur d'etudes a l'Ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales, Francois Bourguignon a egalement ete economiste en chef puis vice-president de la Banque mondiale, et directeur de l'Ecole d'economie de Paris. Il a ete professeur invite au College de France sur la chaire annuelle Savoirs contre pauvrete pour l'annee academique 2013-2014.
