A "must read" for understanding Paul
If you find Paul a confusing author, this book helps make sense of his letters. Eisenbaum helps you appreciate Paul by describing him in relation to the world in which he lived. She explains how Paul was not against the Law in general but how it pertained to Gentiles specifically. She makes many relevant observations that help you to understand misconceptions of Paul and how they came to be. She is an Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Christian Origins at IIiff School of Theology in Denver Colorado and her insight come from experience.
You might also read "Reinventing Paul," by John Gager and "A Rereading of Romans," by Stan Stowers. I spoke to Mrs. Eisenbaum by email and she said the book by Stowers was the most important book on Romans in the past 25 years. She also recommended http://www.thepaulpage.com/ which is very helpful. If you're trying to gain a better insight of the Apostle to the Gentiles, I highly recommend "Paul Was Not A Christian"!
