Es gilt bei vielen als Paradebeispiel postmoderner Literatur. In dieser Arbeit soll "Stadt aus Glas" zum einen in die Postmoderne eingeordnet werden und zum anderen soll die Frage beantwortet werden, inwiefern Paul Auster sich Babylon zu Nutze macht, um New York als das neue Babel zu konstruieren und darzustellen. Zuerst wird versucht die literarische Postmoderne anhand verschiedener Merkmale zu definieren und anschlie???end "Stadt aus Glas" in diese schwer einzugrenzende Str???mung einzuordnen. Danach gilt das Augenmerk den beiden St???dten Babylon und New York. Eine historische Betrachtung der mesopotamischen Stadt soll als Verst???ndnisgrundlage der vielschichtigen Andeutungen im Buch dienen. Die Darstellung der Stadt New York innerhalb von "Stadt aus Glas" und die Andeutungen und Darstellungen von Babylon im Buch folgen, um schlie???lich die Antwort auf die Frage zu geben, ob Paul Auster auf dem Ger???st von New York ein neues Babel konstruiert hat. Als Untersuchungsgegenstand diente die deutsche Ausgabe von "City of Glass", ???bersetzt von Joachim Frank. Erz???hlt wird die Geschichte des Kriminalautors Daniel Quinn, der seine B???cher unter dem Pseudonym William Wilson ver???ffentlicht und nachts immer wieder von Anrufen gest???rt wird. Der Anrufer l???sst sich nicht davon abbringen, dass Daniel Quinn nicht der von ihm gesuchte Privatdetektiv Paul Auster ist. Schlie???lich l???sst sich Quinn darauf ein und gibt sich als der vom Anrufer verlangte Privatdetektiv Paul Auster aus und ???bernimmt den Fall, der die Beschattung des Vaters des Anrufers beinhaltet, der erst k???rzlich aus einer Psychiatrie entlassen wurde.
