She has been responsible for some of the most infectious and appealing grupero of the '90s and 2000s; combine her considerable pop talents with Fonovisa's promotional muscle, and it is no surprise that she has been so visible in the regional Mexican market. Given Bárbara's popularity, she was a natural choice for Fonovisa's ambitious Para Ti... Mi Historia/Para Ti... Nuestra Historia (For You...My Story/For You...Our Story) series. This two-CD set boasts 30 Bárbara recordings from the '90s and 2000s as well as newly recorded spoken introductions/narrations for the material; disc one, in fact, opens with an 18-minute monologue in which Bárbara discusses her career and her life in depth. Those spoken introductions are strictly en español , which makes Para Ti... Mi Historia inappropriate for the type of casual listeners who might buy the occasional Latin budget CD for the melodies even if they don't speak Spanish. Para Ti... Mi Historia is no budget CD, and despite being a best-of, it is not for casual listeners. This 2006 release was assembled for fans who have more than a superficial interest in Bárbara's work; the singer's hardcore followers are the ones who will enjoy hearing her discuss "La Trampa" (The Trap), "Bandido" (Bandit), "Quise Olvidar" (I Wanted to Forget) and other major hits that Fonovisa included. Para Ti... Mi Historia is full of definitive hits, but the beauty of this two-disc set is the way it scratches beneath the surface and paints a more in-depth picture of Bárbara's contributions to grupero and Latin pop. Bottom line: Para Ti... Mi Historia is not recommended to casual listeners or those who don't speak at least some Spanish, but Bárbara's truly devoted followers will definitely want a copy. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi
