Searing History
This book is one of at least three that grew out of research done by David Wyman, a professor of history at the Univ. of Mass. Carefully written and researched, it is a troubling and startling revelation of the United States' implacable resistance to efforts of Hitler's Jewish victims to find refuge in America. Admirers of FDR's administration will have their illusions tarnished, if not destroyed. And this painful history cannot help but make the reader ashamed of this past. The story Wyman tells is nevertheless compelling and heartbreaking, though never sensational or emotional. Wyman allows his information to speak for itself and it tells a story that demands attention. It's almost impossible to end this book without seeking to read the next one - THE ABANDONMENT OF THE JEWS.
