Beautiful and unique. Acrylics
This is a book for acrylic painters who already have experience painting in acrylics. I am mostly a watercolor painter, so at first, I was a little disappointed, but on looking at the book carefully, the paintings are truly BEAUTIFUL and the subjects are not ones that I have seen in many how-to painting books. The subjects are such things as POND AND STREAMS---fish, crawdads, tadpoles, catfish, dragonflies and damselflies, waterlilies, frogs (different varieties), cattails and blue flags(flower), turtles.
MEADOWS AND HILLS: grasses and foxtails, clover, grasshoppers, vines and flowered vines, raspberries and strawberries, Queen Anne's lace, ladybugs and other insects, butterflies, dandelions, bees, black-eyed Susans, moths, hornets and wasps, milkweed and sumac, spiders and crickets.
WOODS AND FORESTS: limbs and twigs, bark, lichens and moss, oaks and acorns, autumn leaves, box turtles and snails, toads and salamanders, mushrooms, pinecones, pine and spruce, cedars, firs and evergreens, ivy and shade leaves, violets, ferns, common leaves, dogwood, redbud, bird and nests, bird eggs, feathers.
The paintings in this book are excellent. The author shows steps in her process of achieving the finished product for each subject, but for a beginner, I would need more steps and demonstration. Even so, I like this book and think more advanced painters would benefit a lot more from it. I also like the subject matter-- ones not found in your everyday art lesson book.
