I'm not going to just re-tell the story nor print a "spoiler" to fill the page. That's so lame. Instead I will offer my personal perspective of the film so those who have not seen this movie will be better able to make their own evaluation. So, let's begin at the beginning. Production level is very high; no cheap CGI effects were used throughout. Dialogue / script is average. There are spots where the writers revert to the tried and trusted "romance" aspect. It's only a fraction of the movie, so bare with it. Hollywood just can't make a Sci-fi without a romance scene, could it ? No way, apparently. The action is well done, for the most part, but missed out on a tremendous opportunity early in the film. The voice-over tells us of the first appearance of these nasty Kaiju, but doesn't follow up on just how they were defeated. Instead, the film just jumps to a point in the future where the star actor is well into his "career" of piloting his Jaeger. Too bad, as this would have really hooked me from the start. Minus two stars for the horrible acting by "Fearless Leader." He's just too intense for me. The same could be said for almost all the rest of the cast. This movie probably won't win any awards, but when has a Si-fi ever won an Oscar - ever ! And, in all honesty, it isn't the best movie I've ever seen, but I liked it. And, so will you.
