As this is one of the great four novels of China, I had to get this copy. Luckily I was in Beijing at the time so I got it at a cheaper price. It is a classic story of 108 bandits who gathered to fight a corrupt government in the name of the emperor.
Many of the chapters end in a cliffhanger so to entice you to read the next one. Some parts of the story might seem a bit repetitive, but overall the translation was well done. The only thing that might shock Western readers is the view on morality that differs in China. All the while, you do get to read a novel that not only became the basis of Chinese martial arts literature, but also an inspiration for those who want to fight oppression.
