Prism Leisure specializes in assembling public-domain materials into cheap packages, and this collection bears no reasonable comparison to collections put together by more discerning labels such as Pearl. On the other hand, it's a lot less expensive. One gets to hear many of Fields' best-known songs from her movies, including "Sally" from Sally in Our Alley (1931), the title song from Looking on the Bright Side (1932), the title song and "In My Little Bottom Drawer" from Sing as We Go (1934), "Ee, by Gum" and "Will You Love Me When I'm Mutton?" from We're Going to Be Rich (1938), and "Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Goodbye" from Shipyard Sally (1939). Sometimes, the HMV Records studio recordings have been used, sometimes the tracks are taken straight from the film soundtracks. The uninitiated will get a good idea of Fields' very British appeal as both a singer of character-filled novelty material and patriotic anthems from this minor collection, even if it makes no attempt at being comprehensive or presenting annotations that would help a fuller appreciation of the performer. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi Read Less
