Over 70% of Earth is made up of water, yet we've only discovered maybe 10% of what's beneath the surface. So what else is down there? This debut science-fiction novella follows two narrators - Orion, a marine biologist, and the mythical creature he comes across, Luci. Taking place in 2039, the scientist, diver, and octopus enthusiast Orion miraculously crosses paths with an undiscovered aquatic creature beneath the waves of the Tasman Sea in Australia. The creature is called an Azuriox, and has the body of a sea turtle with seven tentacles like an octopus. Orion has worked, along with his wife Maria, as a marine biologist in Australia for years, but finding Luci is his greatest achievement. Although the scientific community normally shares information, Orion is worried that people will exploit Luci and immorally use him for scientific experimentation. Both protagonists struggle with accepting the world around them and lead rebellious lives that ultimately bring them together. Orion must learn how to balance his new discovery with his struggling marriage while Luci must survive treacherous waters to become a true Azuriox. Orion's Egg will appeal to fans of fictional philosophy and science fiction because of the clever and thoughtful themes naturally woven within the story. This novella touches on concepts such as the relationship between the mind and body, science's role in nature, Anthropocentrism, and much more.
