Fuller, an engineer and the inventor of the geodesic dome among other things, makes a case for the Earth being a mechanical vehicle. Car maintenance engenders a bit of thermodynamic sense - you can't drive it for very long without gas, oil, water, etc. These are the resources for a car. Taking a general systems approach, he discusses humanity's intellectual and social development and expansion at the expense of the Earth's resources. He blames political bias, human specialization, and the lack of comprehensive thinking, and discusses many of the problems we currently face. He suggests a new course, condemning political machinations and vested interests. There is enough to go around for everyone, and more, if we can think thoroughly and comprehensively. A thought provoking read with a message that improves with age and continued voluntary ignorance.
