Wie aussert sich nun aber diese blos denkende Individualitat im Handeln?--So lange der Staat vorhanden ist, wird sie nur als Staatsburger, d. h. als Individualitat, deren Handlungsweise nicht die ihrer Denkungsweise entsprechende ist, handeln konnen. Der Staatsburger ist nicht vermogend, einen Schritt zu thun, der ihm nicht im Voraus als Pflicht oder als Verbrechen vorgezeichnet ist: der Charakter seiner Pflicht und seines Verbrechens ist nicht der seiner Individualitat eigene; er mag beginnen, was er will, um aus seinem noch so freien Denken zu handeln, er kann nicht aus dem Staate herausschreiten, dem auch sein Verbrechen angehort.
