The arrangement is intended for advanced performers.The arrangement (approximately 5 1/2 minutes in length with five verses) can be performed as: (1) a stand-alone work for trombone quartet.(2) a stand-alone work for mixed brass quartet. (3) accompaniment for congregational hymn singing with organ. The arrangement follows the traditional version of the hymn found in most hymnals (ex., p. 575 in the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal) and is scored in the key of Eb major. Following a brass introduction, the first and second verses are arranged with brass supporting the traditional scoring of the hymn. Brass could remain tacet for selected verses if preferred. For the 3rd and 4th verses, the brass parts become more embellished. The final 5th verse modulates upward a major third to the key of G major for a rousing, uplifting effect. The arrangement includes a full score and individual parts which may be photocopied by the purchaser.
