Strong Stuff
If you like Asian cop v. mob movies, you'll get into the story and atmosphere of ONLY GOD FORGIVES. And if you "got" Nicolas Winding Refn's DRIVE, you might get this one too. He's doing something really intriguing here. There's barely a likeable character anywhere in the film, and neither Ryan Gosling nor Kristin Scott Thomas is actually the main character, so the goings on are likely to surprise and intrigue you in an "anything could happen" sort of way. Lush colors invoke the Thai underworld and the dark night of a renegade cop trying to clean up an almost irredeemable city. Strong stuff.
