Once Upon a Child, Knoll's Quest, is a children's novel that takes its reader on a journey of imagination and fantasy. The main character, Knoll, has been sent from his home world beyond the clouds to our world to find the one child that can break the last spell cast by Chernobog the Sorcerer before his demise. For more than 150 years Knoll has searched for the child that could bring the inner light back to his home world. While walking home from the village one afternoon Knoll is approached by a young boy. Wide eyed and excited Jimmy asks Knoll if he had a pet dragon. With a thunderous laugh Knoll replies, "Where would he sleep, for my cottage is much too small for a dragon". Over time Knoll begins to suspect that Jimmy is the child he has been searching for. Then one day while Jimmy is trying to convince Knoll that he has seen him flying on the back of a dragon, Jimmy starts to describe the symbol that both the dragon and Knoll share. Knoll was speechless, only the members of the royal family from his world could see the symbol that bound him and Drago. At once Knoll returns home searching for answers from the royal council. After hours of deliberation it becomes apparent that no one has the answer to why Jimmy can see the symbols. It isn't until Jimmy's sister Tiffy takes a turn for the worse; forcing the royal council to send the Charm Keeper Kaimi back with Knoll do they discover that not everything is the way that it appears. Evil sorcerers, a shape shifter, and a loved one from Kaimi's past prove to hold the key to unlocking the mystery of who Jimmy really is. A child's imagination is a magical tool that should be encouraged and nurtured. In our world today where children are forced to face the harsh reality of adulthood far too early, I believe a child should be still be allowed to be a child. When a child opens a book a whole new world is at their finger tips to explore. It is my desire to create a place where a child can escape to and allow their dreams to come true.
