In this exploration of an American place that is both strange and deeply familiar, Frazier discusses the oppression of history on Indian reservations, where the per capita income is the nation's lowest. As it examines the Oglala idea of heroism--its suffering and pulse-quickening, public-spirited glory--"On the Rez" portrays the survival, through toughness and humor, of a great people whose culture has shaped the American identity.

THE AUTHOR WAS VERY PRO AMERICAN INDIAN, BUT IT READ LIKE A HORRIBLE DRUNKEN STALKING OF AN INDIAN THAT WAS ON THE ROAD TO DESTRUCTION. THE ONLY REASON I READ IT TO THE END WAS I WAS DESPERATE FOR A SUMMER BOOK REPORT FOR SCHOOL IN SEPT. AND THATS THE ONLY REASON I READ IT.

Inspiring read.
I somewhat feel saddened by the mere thought that there are people out there who won't ever chance to read this work by Ian Frazier -- people who would benefit richly from the experience of having read it. It was like a vacation to a world seldom seen/scene.
