Seller's Description:
Good in Fair jacket. x, [2], 242, [2] pages. Illustrations. The dust jacket is price clipped and has wear, tears, chips and some soiling. Signed by the author on the fep. Separate birthday gift inscription inside front cover. Rachel White Adams (1908-1979) was the wife of Sherman Adams, former assistant to President Eisenhower. Mr. Adams was Governor of New Hampshire from 1949 through 1953 and was General Eisenhower's assistant from 1953 through 1958. Mrs. Adams was graduated from Northfield Seminary in Northfield, Mass. She was an artist and author and published an autobiography, "On the Other Hand, " in 1963. She was a member of the New Hampshire Commission on the Arts from 1965 to 1971. She received the Ben Thompson Award from the University of New Hampshire in 1959. Mr. Adams was an early and influential supporter of Eisenhower's Presidential candidacy, directed the day-to-day operations of the Eisenhower White House from 1953 to September 1958. To political historians, he set a modern prototype for strong White House chiefs of staff. Humor, warmth and considerable Yankee tartness enrich this distaff view of life in the upper reaches of government--the personal story of Mrs. Sherman Adams.
