At any rate this substance appeared to accumulate at the lower side of the cutting and to inhibit' growth in the shoots which had been brought into that position by, the revolution of the cutting. It is important to notice that the two original sprouts on this cutting did not respond normally to the geotropic stimulus previous to their death. This would indicate that there were profound changes in the metabolism and in growth reactions of the sprouts.
