My 1000 day Prostate Cancer Story Growing up, it was never even remotely in my imagination that I would or could get cancer. Neither was it my intent to be turned into a cyborg, but here I am. I don't care what kind of person you are, executive, man on the street, macho, timid, in great shape, obese, great attitude, or a total ass, when you are told you definitely have cancer, when you know it is real, it can mess with your head. This is life-changing news and even the most fearless of us will shake at hearing the word. Cancer is associated with the destruction of lives, pain, and unfortunately, a lot of the time death. If you have prostate surgery, or really any surgery, things can go wrong even when it is done right, and in my case it did. Looking back, if I knew before surgery what I would be experiencing now, eight months after the surgery, I am pretty sure I would have rolled the dice and taken the five to seven years of quality life that my doctor said I would have if I did nothing. Prostate cancer is like a long emergency. The cancer could take a long time to even alert you that it is present, and you may never even know you have it. On the other hand it can just pop up and kill you quickly. My story is embarrassing, very explicit, and an extremely personal subject. It is hard to talk about, much less write about or publish to the world, but I feel obligated to do so and to share so as to help others who could be facing the same. So I will share, a little about myself, my family, and my journey's timeline.
