Near Fine in Very Good jacket. 8vo. 488 pp. Ochre cloth with maroon label with gilt lettering and design on spine. Clean, square and tight throughout. In fine condition but that rear free end paper is toned from articles laid in and owner's signature on front free end paper. Price clipped dust jacket is very good with small chips on rear top edge and some spotting/water damage on spine which does not affect clear and legible lettering. History of Arab culture during the second half of the nineteenth century. The focus is not on imperial involvement--especially British--in the area, but on the indigenous history of the Gulf's people themselves and the way they reacted to the probes of a modern civilization that would disrupt their ancient ways. It was a time when the region's culture was changed irrevocably, sometimes in more destructive than constructive ways.
