Profusely illustrated with eight tipped-in colour plates, forty seven monochrome plates to the rear of the work and many in-text vignettes. Plate two has been incorrectly bound opposite page twelve rather than page ten. Five of the coloured plates are by noted maritime illustrator Cecil King. L. G. Carr Laughton is acknowledged as a major driving force behind the Society of Nautical Research and was a longtime editor of The Mariner's Mirror. 'Old Ship Figure-Heads & Sterns' is Laughton's most well-known works and is a highly detailed and decorative study of the decoration of ships in the sailing ship era including H.M. S Victory and H.M.S. Termagant. In a blue cloth binding with gilt detail. Externally in excellent condition with just some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine.
