All volumes with late 19th century era rebacking which is not holding. Leather splitting in the joints with many boards detached, some with a few front matter pages attached. Evidence of more recent and ineffectual glue repairs in the joints. Text contents bright, clean and complete. Half-titles present save for Vol. 4, from which the half-title is missing. Leather spines complete if a bit worn at spine ends and splitting in joints. Wants rebacking. Good only....Oversize book may require additional charges for expedited or international shipping.

A New Edition copy, revised and enlarged by the author's son, Robert Harding Evans, a notable English bookseller and auctioneer. With a frontispiece to volume I, and illustrated vignette to each title page. In a half polished calf binding with marbled paper boards, and attractive marbled textblock and endpapers. Fading to spine. Slight rubbing to raised bands of spine. Front joint split to tail, volume III-IV. Hingles slightly strained but firm, split in places to front joint, both volumes. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned but very clean, with the odd spot, heavier to first and last few pages. Small ink mark to frontispiece and title page, volume I-II. The odd faint handling mark to the occasional page. Very Good.
