I read another book of Upton Sinclairs and loved it but it was all I could do to force myself to finish this novel. He had a number of very good points but for me it went on and on and on and on. I honestly think the book would have been much better if it had been half as long. He goes into great detail about the oil drilling business, so much so I just wanted to put the book down. I read very fast but it took me forever to finish this one. By the way the movie that is "supposedly" based on the book (There Will Be Blood) is absolutely nothing like it and in this case that may be good. I couldn't recommend this book unless you have lots of time to kill and have a historical interest in early oil drilling. Finally I rated this book as two stars but it keeps changing it to 3 stars.
