The making of records is a very simple matter if you pay close IIoc to attention to the fundamental principles. The blank cylinders must be 3/ViAr shaved smooth, and this can best be accomplished by shaving very lightly Correetions and going over the surface a second time. Remove the least possible amount of wax at each shaving. The scratching noise is almost invaria Correetions bly caused by attempting to take off too much at one shaving. The faster the machine is being run when the record is being made, the louder will be the record. One hundred revolutions per minute is perhaps best for ordinary matter. Speak in your regular tone of voice, being careful to enunciate clearly and distinctly. Particular attention must be given to the sounds of "s" and "th," and to the enunciation of the final "t's," "d's," and "ed's." By listening intently to one of the records you have made you will note many defects, which may be avoided in the next cylinders you make.
