Vicaire says that this book first appeared in 1878 published by Dentu and he places the 8th edition in the year 1888. This is the undated 23rd edition, date uncertain but possibly around 1902. This is a solid refurbished copy with the original spine panel missing but the spine now rebacked with brown cloth to which the original front and back covers, although quite worn at the edges, have been reattached.
